For consumers and businesses alike, the coming months may test the resilience of Kenya’s energy supply chain.

The Kenyan government has moved to calm fears over potential fuel shortages following rising tensions in the Middle East, a region critical to global oil supply.

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi announced that Kenya currently has enough petroleum reserves to sustain both domestic and regional demand until at least April 2026.

The assurance comes as geopolitical tensions threaten global energy markets and could trigger price volatility worldwide.

Authorities say Kenya’s government-to-government fuel import framework has helped shield the country from sudden price spikes in international spot markets.

Economists, however, warn that prolonged instability in the Middle East could still affect Kenya through higher transport costs, inflation, and increased pressure on electricity tariffs.

For consumers and businesses alike, the coming months may test the resilience of Kenya’s energy supply chain.
